“On Sunday, May 1, there was a news story in Fort Myers, FL about a local breeder getting out of the “business” and wanting to get rid of all her rabbits. She was going to gas them and sell them for food on Monday night if no one had taken them. The story pretty much went viral in the FB bunny community. A rescue in NJ heard about it and organized a massive rescue of these buns. The breeder was called and we worked with her to give us until the weekend to get the buns out of there. Unfortunately, because she was going to make money off them if she gassed them (the zoo offered her $8 per bunny), we had to “bail” them out. In just over 24 hours, all the bail money was raised (79 rabbits total) and places were found for all the bunnies. On Wednesday afternoon, several people met there to pick up the bunnies and transport them to various places. Some stayed local in Florida, some went out to Louisiana and Tennessee, and some went all the way up the East coast to New York and New Jersey. (If you check www.bunnytransport.com you can find out more information on where all the bunnies went.) This bunny was one of the rescues. I picked her up on Wednesday and have been temporarily fostering her until today, when I will be taking her to a rescue near Palm Beach, FL. Last night I caught this cute picture of her sleeping with her paws on her litter box.”
